Excerpt: ...by evil lusts and selfishness, didst cast off both alike, and give them over to delusion and slavery: Grant us grace in Thy holy fear to learn, that by the Spirit of our God is understanding; and whereas through our own perverseness we are entangled and hindered in running the race of all virtue which is set before us, raise up, we pray Thee, Thy power, and come among us, and with great might succour us, that being delivered from an evil mind, and enlightened by Thy Holy Spirit, we may both know our duty, and perform the same to Thy honour, who art our living Strength, and our Lord. So be it, 0 Lord. THE DECEMBER HOLY DAY. Being the old festival of seed-time, but now set apart for the remembrance of the birth of our Lord Jesus, and so commonly called Christmas. GOD, who yearly makest us glad with friends and joy in our homes, and hast also brought to our remembrance the birth of Thy Holy Child Jesus, who living and dying in the weakness of the flesh, was owned Thy Son by the power of the Spirit: we bless Thee for His great humility, and pray to become partakers of His glorious life, holding fast the freedom which He wrought for men from all defilement of sin, and from all bondage of the soul; and we beseech Thee so to consecrate us to Thy service, that through Thy gift we may be Thy children, and be one with Christ in mind, as He is one with Thee our Father for ever. Grant this prayer, O Lord. The Counsel. GOD, who in sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past by priests and lawgivers, as by mediators; now in the fulness of time speaks unto us as a father to his children.
